
I ran 9 operating systems all at the same time on one desktop once, just to see if it was possible. You can use the free VMware player to "play" them. VMware call these ready made OS's "appliances" - you can download them here. Linux Mint is even more simple, but also much more pretty than Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a good start i agree with that, and you can download the VM for free from VMware's site.


It's most frustrating learning Linux when you get stuck and are tied to the partition you've booted into.

When first discovering Linux or any new OS, i suggest you run it in a VM on your desktop so you can pop in and out of it when it suits you.
